Mirroring can not only be helpful to you for video streaming and gaming, but also if you want to sit back and relaxedly view through the Photo Library, present a slideshow, and communally browse social media. Today, there are smart ways to mirror and watch iOS or iPad OS content on your Apple TV.

Mirror iPhone or iPad Screen to Apple TV with AirPlay

AirPlay is a wireless streaming technology that you can use to display videos and images and play songs on another electronic device with an AirPlay receiver. Currently, AirPlay technology supports Apple devices running on iOS 4.2 or later, including the iPhone 3G, 4G, and 5G, iPad, second-generation or later iPod Touch, and second-generation or later Apple TV.

TIP: Want to try AirPlay technology? But do not have an Apple device? You can enable AirPlay on the computer by running iTunes 10.2 or later.

Follow the below steps to enable AirPlay, and mirror your iPhone or iPad on Apple TV.

Step 1: Turn on your TV. Connect your Apple iPad or iPhone and the Apple TV to an internet connection on the same network or the same Wi-Fi network.

Step 2: Launch Control Center on your iPhone or iPad. (You can launch Control Center by swiping down from the top right corner of the screen on iPhone X or later iPhones and iPad with iOS 12 or later. On other iPads/ iPhones, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to launch Control Center.)

Step 3: On Control Center, tap on Screen Mirroring.

Step 4: On the pop-up device menu, tap on the name of your Apple TV.

Now, a code will display on TV.

Step 5: Type in the code displaying on the TV on the text box on your iPhone/ iPad that requests to enter the AirPlay Code. Then, tap OK.

NOTE: You will not need to enter the AirPlay passcode each and every time you connect your iPhone/ iPad to Apple TV through AirPlay. The passcode will require only the very first time you connect your Apple TV with a new device.

Now, you can view the screen of your iPad/ iPhone on TV: the big screen. So, you can watch a video, a photo slide show, and anything on your iPhone from your TV.

How to disconnect screen mirroring?

To stop screen mirroring your iPhone/ iPad to your Apple TV,

Step 1: Relaunch the Control Center on your iPhone/ iPad.

Step 2: Tap on Screen Mirroring.

Step 3: Tap on Stop Mirroring on the pop-up menu. Then, exit the Control Center.

That will stop the screen mirroring of your device on the TV.

However, you will notice that when you mirror your iPhone/ iPad on your TV, the mirrored screen will not fill up the entire TV screen. Else, the TV screen will partially fill up as per the aspect ratio of the mirrored device. So, if you want to watch a movie or any other video or a photo in full-screen mode on your TV, you should try video casting.

Cast video from iPhone/ iPad to Apple TV using AirPlay
